I recently watched the plight of newly hatched sea turtles, slowly and methodically making their way to the ocean. They faced all sorts of outside forces that turned hundreds of hatchlings into a mere 30-40 living specimens who actually made it to the ocean.

Once there, they quickly learn how to manage life around their sea-based predators and are even now believed to stay on course and return to their original nesting grounds 30-50 years later, with the use of magnetic fields.

It’s really fascinating to consider that this creature is able to survive such slim odds of making it to the ocean, and then finds itself traveling thousands of miles in a lifetime, based on magnetic maps in their heads.

I’ve found that in marketing my coaching business, or even when I’m helping one of my coaching clients market their own, taking things slowly and methodically is really the most beneficial way of establishing the long-term relationship that leads to good qualified leads and ideal clients for all of us.

While there may be hundreds of other competitors navigating the same marketing waters, what I believe differentiates us, is the consistency and completely mapped out marketing plan that is focused on the right target market for our specific business; a plan that builds rapport, establishes our expertise, and provides prospects and clients with viable, trackable, and profitable solutions to grow their businesses on multiple levels.

I’ve been pleased to see that people are finally realizing that they need to get back on track with their marketing; but still somewhat befuddled that they do it without a marketing plan in place. This makes it extremely difficult to be held accountable to implementing the plan, whether it’s you personally doing the implementation, in-house staff, or virtual professionals.

It’s difficult for you to track your results if you don’t have a clear picture of your marketing initiatives, when they’re being implemented and having something in place to track their results. Even something as simple as asking a prospect, ‘how did you hear about us’, would be helpful, but is usually not consistently requested of a new client.

So I encourage you to be one of those living specimens that makes it through the sea of competitors by creating a simple marketing plan using the latest technologies to improve your consistency and productivity while gaining ideal clients who will be best served by what you have to offer.

While using Email is an accepted form of Internet marketing, it’s still important that you build trust and show contacts that you respect them in how you collect email addresses and what you do with them. When a prospect shares their email address it greatly affects your ability to build on that trust. Here are three tips to help you build solid relationships with current and potential subscribers.

1. Set High Permission Standards

Never try to trick people into opting in for something. Get clear permission to send out everything you want to through your email marketing campaign. This means that you should never pre-check the opt-in box or trick subscribers with intentionally misleading text (i.e. "Do not select this option if you do not want to receive…"). It’s also important to provide clear information on what they’re signing up for and what they’ll be receiving; even how often they should expect them. Taking the extra step of requesting they confirm their opt-in status in a separate confirmation email, is a great way to communicate your intention.

2. Be Transparent About Your Privacy Policies

Don’t be like some email marketers and intentionally publish privacy policies in long legal speak, small print, or make it difficult to find, knowing that subscribers are unlikely to read them. Make it simple for them to discover and understand what exactly you intend to use their data for. Writing your privacy policies in simple language and making it easily accessible is a great way to show that you’re trustworthy and have nothing to hide.

3. Respect Permission to the Highest Degree

To keep prospect expectations high, never rent your list out to third parties even if you believe it won’t be tracked back to you. Don’t even use your list to promote other parts of your business, or other things they did not explicitly sign up for. Give your subscribers exactly what you told them to expect and they will recognize you as trustworthy.

When utilizing email as a part of your marketing plan show subscribers exactly why they should trust you; and respect their privacy at all costs. Never trick them into opting in for anything they don’t expect or fully understand and value the trust they show for you as they give you their email addresses.

How are you building trust with prospects and clients with your Email Marketing strategies? Please share your comments below.

Blog forums are a great place to start generating free traffic for your blog. Because of the obvious shared interest in the topic, blog forums create new interest and grow your following.

Some of the better known blog forum sites are: Blogger Forum, Bloggeries and Blogst Forum. A basic Google search will yield vast numbers of forum sites; it’s worth checking to see how active any forum is prior to registration, so you are joining the busiest, most popular groups.

Be certain to carefully read any forum rules prior to posting and abide by them. Also, don’t alienate potential visitors by submitting multiple posts just containing the link to your blog.

You are not limited to advertising your blog link or accumulating traffic on these forums; you can ask others to point out its positive and negative aspects; ask people to critique the style, layout and content.

Bear in mind opinions may widely differ, but it doesn’t mean something is bad if one or two people don’t like a particular aspect – it could be a matter of personal taste. However, if you consistently get negative comments about certain parts of your blog, take the time to think about what changes you can make to improve them.

Return the favor and critique other blogs. Not only are people more likely to help you if they see you are willing to reciprocate, by viewing lots of blogs you get an idea of what works and what doesn’t and you’ll learn to more objectively view your own.

Reading forum posts allows you to pick helpful tips and tricks from other blog owners on topics like content, advertising and affiliate marketing. Absorb as much information as possible and make notes on anything of interest; then implement them to make your own blog more successful.

Don’t expect to post your link on a few forums and quickly gain hordes of traffic – you will only get out as much as you are prepared to put in. Advertise your blog on as many forums as you can to gain maximum exposure and you will be rewarded with a steady increase in traffic.

Join me for an interactive and FREE teleseminar where I’ll share what I believe is the current State of the Virtual Assistance Industry, what it means to you, and your business, and why I believe 2010 can be an exceptional year for VAs.

Date: Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Time: 7:00 – 8:30 PM EASTERN

Registration is required go here to register: http://bit.ly/7yv2tb

Several days ago, I read an article online about the current state of small businesses and specific industries. While some larger corporations are anticipated to show growth in 2010, small businesses, and specifically badly hit industries in this recession, will not fare very well.

The statistics indicated that in 2009, 35% of small businesses went OUT OF BUSINESS. That’s more than a third of all small businesses. Whether you know it or not, it’s very scary to me because I know that small businesses are truly the backbone of our country.

People in the mortgage and real estate industries closed down at a rate of 40-45%, with associated industries (from the domino effect), such as appraisers, inspectors, home stagers, etc., staying within the formerly stated 35%.

It went on to say that this is a natural process where only the best of the best will remain because although money is still moving during the recession, there is less of it moving. They anticipate that one third (33%) of the remaining small businesses will also close their doors in 2010. Will your VA practice be one of them?

I believe this is a great time for us to come together as an industry and look at where we are going, how we fit into the current economic situation, and how we can be sure NOT to be among the 33% who will be out of business in 2010.

That’s why I am holding a FREE teleseminar in January to discuss the State of the Industry and open a discussion of how we might look at what we can do now that will ensure we continue to build strong businesses in 2010 and beyond.

Join me for this interactive and informative session on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 from 7:00 – 8:30 PM Eastern.

Don’t forget, although this is a FREE teleseminar, registration is required. Please register at: http://bit.ly/7yv2tb and additional links and dial-in information will be forwarded at a later date.

I look forward to speaking with you then.

I just spoke to one of my clients in Florida recently, and he reminded me how enjoyable it is to do business together. He always seems to have fun projects that fit perfectly with my expertise and his positive outlook seems to extend from his business to his life!

This made me stop to think about my other clients, and they too have the same positive attitude, are fun to work with, and we share a mutual respect and appreciation for each other.

WOW, how cool is that? This all makes me wonder, how did I get here? How did this happen? Could it be the law of attraction?

I think that has a lot to do with it, as does my attitude, and the fact that many of my new clients come to me as referrals.

But I think it’s also something else; I think it’s the brand I’ve created for myself. I believe that along with the logo, website, tagline, etc., that creates my brand, so does my appearance, professional and personal image and ethical standards. And I want to do business with people who appreciate my expertise and with whom I can share a mutual respect. Don’t we all?

So I think my brand is also firmly grounded with me personally, even with my name, so to speak. If I’ve learned nothing over these past few years of re-invention, I’ve learned that it’s better to have a personal and professional brand that I can carry into any particular niche I may expand into as the VA industry continues to evolve.

Today’s real estate VA could be tomorrow’s shopping cart VA. If I spent all my branding on a professional ‘real estate’ focus, it could be difficult to transition any of that experience into the newly developed niche.

After being in business more than 11-years, I’m grateful for all the clients and colleagues who have helped make me such a great success; and helped me to establish such a personal, professional, and enjoyable brand. I wish you all the same!

Here are five things to consider in crafting your 60-second infomercial:

1. Who is your target market? While I can open my informercial by saying, “although I have clients in almost every industry…” – you still want to focus on your niche or target market to help people think of who they know that could benefit from your services. If you’re still not sure, analyze your current client list and see if there is a particular industry, or type of client that seems most logical to your offerings.

2. What problems does your target market have that you can solve? Keep it simple. Come up with one or two things – don’t overdo it – less is more!

3. How do you solve these problems? Again, don’t come up with a laundry list of products/services, just enough to whet the appetite so they’ll want to find out more.

4. Mention something specific that speaks to results, like: ‘many of my clients say their sales increased at least 20% as a result of working with us’.

5. End with either a memorable tagline, or a question – like – ‘is that something that might be of interest to you or someone you know?’

Once you have it setup, print it out and practice it (and time yourself) several times until you have it pretty well memorized. You don’t want to come off sounding too scripted, but you will need to get comfortable with all the aspects so that you’re sure to hit all the points you need to in your time allotment.

Once you have this mastered, you will want to cut the content even more, for a true elevator speech – which is usually only 30-seconds in length.

Finally, especially if you attend networking events regularly, you will want to have several different versions for answering the questions numbered two, three, and four above. This gives people the opportunity to hear more about the additional services/products you provide. If you only talk about one specific product or service, they’ll believe that’s all you offer and you could be leaving potential sales on the table.

With a little bit of work, and practice, you’ll have the perfect 60-second infomercial that helps people immediately recognize what it is you do, and who they need to refer to you. Word of mouth marketing is the most cost-effective way to market your business. The infomercial is the best tool to close the sale!
